A memorial was erected in Major O'Malley's honor in France.
Excerpts from his daughter's eloquent speech accepting the plaque...
"To think that you all have remembered my father after all these years. To think that his death was not in vain. That is an amazing gift to me and my family. My father’s memory will continue to live on. People will come and read the plaque and say his name. So many of our men are forgotten. But, because of your generosity, the memory of my father will live on. I can never thank you enough"
"My father is more than a name on a cross. He was a handsome Irishman, who was born in the small town of Kingston, Pennsylvania, a coal mining area. He was six feet tall with coal black hair, piercing blue eyes, a great sense of humor, outstanding athletic ability, and keen intelligence. These abilities, coupled with his military education, made him a fierce, dedicated leader of men. He was fearless. As one soldier said, “He was the fightiness man I ever saw.“ He stood out from all the rest. His flamboyance was clear in battle and in peace. In the states he drove through the towns and camps in his red, Packard convertible, When he walked down the street, people turned around and stared. He looked like a movie star. I named our first born son after him"
